Do diets work?
Weight LossMost diets do actually work, that is, while you stick to that diet. However it takes willpower and as soon as the willpower weakens 95% of people give up on the diet. Unfortunately once a person starts a diet their body automatically lowers their metabolism and the longer the person stays on the diet the lower their metabolism will get. After a diet, even when a person starts to eat normal amounts of food, they gain weight and this continues until they are heavier that they were before they started the diet! After each diet the person ends up heavier.

There is a massive industry promoting one diet after another. On the front covers of magazines you will see quotes like
“Lose 12 lbs in a week!”
What they should say is
“Lose 12 lbs in a week! And GAIN 14 lbs in the month after that”
Why is it so difficult to stick to a diet?
Logically we all know that we do not need to eat chocolate, crisps or junk food to live. Logically we know we do not need to eat to excess. However, there can be very strong emotional attachments to food. Some people eat when they are sad or bored. Some people use food as an excuse for a break and some people have been conditioned to eat to excess by their family upbringing. Most of us have heard comments similar to this.
“You must finish your dinner before you get any dessert.”
While these emotional / feeling thought patterns are in place in a persons subconscious mind, dieting is doomed to failure. Our emotions and feelings will always win out against willpower or logic in the long run.
